Third Reich
Reich means 'Empire' in German. The first Reich refers to the period of 962 to 1806. The Second Reich from 1871 to 1918. Hitler wanted to created another great period for Germany which would last for a thousand years. He called it the Third Reich. Strictly speaking it did not start until President Hindenberg's death in August 1934, when Hitler took full leadership of Nazi Germany, but in practice, the Nazis had already established themselves in power during their first year.
