P-T
Ernst Rohm
Chief of the SA and one-time friend of Hitler. Rohm fought in the First World War as a professional soldier. Joining the Nazis after Hitler, he was with him in the 1923 Munich Putsch. In 1930, Hitler gave him the task of organising the SA. SA membership rose from 170,000 at the end of 1930, to 4,000,000 by the end of 1933. In 1934, Hitler decided that Rohm's power in the rapidly growing SA presented a threat to his own.
