The
Euthanasia programme is officailly ended in the German Reich following the
opposition from the Church led by the Bishop of Münster, Clemens von Galen.
Over 70,000 mentally and physically handicapped German adults and children
had been killed during the two years of its operation. Murder of patients
in mental insitutions continued unofficially after this date.
