Weimar Republic
The German Republic that existed from 1919 until it was ended by Hitler. The Nazis hated the democratic nature of the consitution and believed it to be the cause of many of Germany's problems after the First World War. Although in effect the Weimar Republic ended after Hitler came to power, it was really still existing until the President of the Republic, Hindenburg died in August 1934. Hitler, the Chancellor, then assumed complete control as the Führer of the new Germany called the Third Reich.
