President
Paul von Hindenburg dies. The popular and highly respected General Field Marshall
was 85 years old, and was the second President of the Weimar Republic. Initially
Hitler used the good name of Hindenburg, but the political activity of the
ageing President rapidly declined in the first year of the Nazi's rule. After
Hindenburg's death Hitler becomes Head of state and the Supreme Commander
of the Armed Forces. He now has no constitutional opposition to his dictatorship.
