Progress and Tragedy

When we look back at history, we often find that both progress and tragedy stand out. Progress, because we like to see how development in culture, society, the arts and science have added to the richness of the human experience. Tragedy, because we feel the need to understand the sufferings of our fellow human beings.

The Twentieth Century has seen both progress and tragedy as never before. The world has moved on, harnessing the powers of science and technology. Sadly, this progress has also been put to devastating use at times.
